The purpose of the GDC is to protect the public by regulating the dental team. It can be done by:

  • setting standards of dental practice and conduct

  • ensuring professionals keep up-to-date
  • helping patients with complaints about a dentist or dental care professional
  • working to strengthen patient protection

The GDC register

The GDC keeps up-to-date registers of these dentists and dental care professionals (DCPs). To join the GDC registers, they need to meet the professional standards set by the GDC. Anybody who wants to work in the UK as a dentist or dental care professional must be registered with the GDC
